PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The 2018 Pioneers' Volleyball schedule is highlighted by six matchups with teams who were nationally ranked last season, five with teams that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament, and the return of Yell Night.
UW-Platteville will open their season at the UW-Whitewater Invitation on August 31 and September 1. At the Labor Day weekend tournament they have rematches from last season with Franklin and Coe College, and face 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier DePauw University for the first time since 2010.
Two weekends later the Pioneers welcome North Park, Waldorf, and Coe for the UW-Platteville Invitational on September 14-15.
Their seven match Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule begins September 18 when they play host to UW-Stout. The Pioneers will also host UW-Whitewater on October 8, and UW-River Falls October 26 in their final regular season match of the season.
Mixed in with their conference schedule, Coach Birkicht's team will travel to St. Louis where they matchup with Colorado College and tournament host Washington University who are both regular national championship contenders. The second year coach will also bring her team to the Albion/Olivet Invitational in Michigan, and Wartburg College who was a 2017 National Tournament qualifier.
Yell Night also returns to the Pioneers' schedule in 2018 when Simpson College makes their way into Williams Fieldhouse on October 2. The event which has pulled in crowds of over 1,000 will once again coincide with Homecoming Week.
Last season in her first year at the helm of the volleyball program, Coach Birkicht got the blue and orange off to their best start in 13 years at 7-0 and had the Pioneers finish with a winning record for the first time since 2012.
