Busy weekend nets two wins

UW-Platteville played three matches in two cities in a 24-hour span and won two out of the three competitions. 

The Pioneers fell at home Friday to nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point 25-20, 25-15, 25-13, then went to Waukesha, Wisconsin the next day and beat host Carroll 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12 and Finlandia 25-20, 25-21, 25-18.

The busy weekend stretch left the Pioneers with an 11-9 record. 

Kielyn Kapugi and Maddie Dower each had nine kills against UW-Stevens Point, which improved to 16-5 overall. The Pointers hit .292 as a team. 

Kapugi (18 kills) and Dower (16) led a strong UW-Platteville offensive showing against Carroll. Allie Carter set up the Pioneers with 49 assists. Dower added 19 digs, and Grace Austin had 18. The Pioneers scored the last three points to secure the road victory. 

The Pioneers had a much easier time in their last match, dispatching Finlandia in three sets. Dower had 13 kills to lead the team while Kapugi and Ashlee Moore each added 8. 

UW-Platteville and Finlandia face off again on Saturday morning at the UW Oshkosh Classic. The Pioneers play Simpson and St. Olaf Friday and close with St. Thomas Saturday afternoon.
