Pioneers win two at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team won both of its matches in the Augustana College Tournament in Rock Island, Illinois defeating both the Illinois College Lady Blues and the Grinnell College Pioneers Saturday. The Pioneers won their third straight match.

For the Pioneers' first match of the tournament, they took the 3-1 win against the Illinois College Lady Blues 20-25, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-16. Junior setter Allie Carter recorded 45 assists for the Pioneers while sophomore setter Grace Austin logged 26 digs. Junior outside hitter Allison Jensen led the Pioneers in kills with 14, followed by senior right side hitter Amber Williams and senior middle hitter Lidia Frias each logging 10.

In the Pioneers' second match, they had a 3-1 win over the Grinnell College Pioneers 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-22. Carter logged 40 assists in the four sets, while Austin recorded 24 digs. Jensen again led the Pioneers in kills. logging 21, while Williams made 15 and Frias 10.

The Pioneers, 4-8 on the year, return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
