Women's soccer drops hard-fought overtime game 2-1 to Luther

The University of Wisconsin Platteville Pioneers women's soccer team (3-10, 0-5 WIAC) lost 2-1 in overtime to the Norse of Luther College (6-8-1).

In the first overtime period, Luther's Lydia Eager lofted a shot over Pioneers sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Macy's head for the golden goal.

The Pioneers came out firing quickly as junior midfielder Melissa Dunlavy scored the Pioneers' goal seven minutes into the contest. Dunlavy found the ball in the box and ripped a shot past Norse goalkeeper Cydney Haaland.

The Pioneers and Norse both played solid defense for the rest of the first half. The Pioneers allowed three shots in the first half, while Luther allowed four.  The Pioneers held a 1-0 halftime lead.

Luther's Kate Manning answered the Dunlavy goal quickly after the break. Manning found the net just over a minute into the half, putting the ball over Haaland's head.

Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the second half, while the Pioneers held a 4-3 advantages in shots.

The Pioneers play next Sat., Oct. 20 at WIAC rival University of Wisconsin-Stout.
