Pioneers Lose WIAC Opener to UW-Stevens Point, 7-1

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision to host UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers (2-4) fell behind early as the host Pointers scored four times in the first half en route to a 4-0 halftime lead. UW-Stevens Point (5-1) scored three more times in the second half before UW-Platteville ended the shutout bid in the 83rd minute.

Trailing 7-0 in the 83rd minute, Pioneers' sophomore Katie Viney scored her first goal of the season. In the loss, UW-Platteville was outshot by a 25 to 7 margin and goalkeeper Jade Jandt made seven saves.

The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. when they travel to UW-La Crosse.
