Loras College scored five times in the first 45 minutes and three more in the final 45 minutes en route to an 8-1 win to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team.
With the win, Loras raises its record to 2-1 and the Duhawks hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season who fall to 2-1.
The Duhawks, who are the defending Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, showed their offensive prowess as they outshot UW-Platteville by a 14 to 5 margin. Loras forward Lynn DeVriese scored three straight goals in the opening 45 minutes to record a hat trick in the win. She was joined in the first half scoring by Jayne Eslinger and Hillary Wilson.
The Pioneers got on the board in the closing minutes when Sarah Eck (pictured from 2011) scored her fourth goal of the young season. Eck found the back of the net on an 18-yard free kick in the 44th minute. Eck and Katie Viney each had two shots in the loss for UW-Platteville.
Loras added to its lead when Jaclyn Tumberger, Shannon Stewart and Kathryn Hermanas each scored in the second half to complete the 8-1 win for the Duhawks.
The Pioneers will complete its four-game road swing away from home for its next contest when they travel to North Park in Chicago on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
