Pioneers drop tough decision to talented UW-Whitewater.

The University of Wisconsin – Platteville Pioneer wrestling team opened their season against a tough UW-Whitewater Warhawks squad on Thursday night in Williams Fieldhouse.  The night looked promising for the Pioneers, as Cole Ferguson was able to begin the night with a victory for the Pioneer at the 125-weight class.  Ferguson won 4-3 over UW-Whitewater's Trevor Pruett.  The Pioneers then lost the next three matches at 133 lbs., 141 lbs., and 149 lbs.  Then Senior Peter Crocco walked onto the mat for his match against UW-Whitewater's Willie Anaya.  Crocco was able to record a pin on Anaya will 35 seconds left in the 2nd round of their match.  With the pin, the Pioneers were able to cut the Warhawks' lead 12-9.  Then the Warhawks responded and recorded victories in the remaining five matches of the night.  UW-Whitewater won the dual by a score of 31-9.  The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they travel to Galesburg, IL to compete in the Knox Duals on Saturday.  Match results listed below.
