    On a rainy day one of the NCAA Championships, Ian LaMere began the day by becoming the first runner in Division III history to ever win the 10,000m race three years in a row. To end the day, Amber Williams won her first long jump national title.

    The Pioneers sent a small group to the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier for a last chance to qualify to the NCAA Championships next weekend. Even though Kyle Whaley was set to qualify to to nationals he used the weekend to improve his national ranking.

    At last night?s Wisconsin Sports Awards ceremony, held at Camp Randall Stadium and the UW Field House, Ian LaMere was awarded the Small College Athlete of the Year award. He wasn?t present to accept the award because he was competing at North Central?s Dr. Keeler Invite.

    The UW-Platteville Track and Field teams took benefit of the home field advantage to step up and win five events on day two of the WIAC Championships. The Pioneer women alone took home titles in five events over the course of the weekend, the second highest total for any women’s team at the Championships.

    For the final week of the regular season, the track and field teams split their squad between the Drake Relays and the UW-whitewater Drake Alternative meet. Rain and unseasonably cold weather hampered the performances in both meets as a few athletes were able to persevere past the rough conditions.

    Two school records went down over the weekend while the Pioneers competed at Augustana. Senior Heptathlete Megan Marotz finished day 1 of the Heptathlon with a school record in the 200m while teammate Rachel Beuthin broke the shot put record. Ian LaMere traveled to UW-LaCrosse to compete in the 10,000m and came away with the fastest time of the year.

    The UW-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Ashton May Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse on Saturday. The Pioneers came away with two event winners as Amber Williams took the long jump and Kyle Whaley bested the field in the shot put.

    The Pioneer Track and Field teams opened the outdoor season at the Washington University Invite in St. Louis, Missouri. The two-day competition was highlighted by the Pioneer throwers winning both the men’s and women’s shot put.

    The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named eight Pioneers All-Region. To be named All-Region athletes needed to be ranked in the top-5 in an individual event or top-3 in a relay.

    Kyle Whaley headed into Saturday’s the final qualifying meet not ranked in the top-15 of shot putters that will get to compete in the NCAA Championships next weekend. Whaley wasn’t having it, he made sure he was going to participate in his third indoor national meet in a row. After qualifying to the finals in Saturday’s shot put, Whaley threw the mark that will get him there. Whaley tossed the shot 16.42m (53-10.5) to crack the top-15 into the No. 14 spot.

    Amber Williams was named 2017 WIAC Women's Field Performer of the Meet for the third year in a row. Williams becomes the first woman in WIAC history to win the award three straight yeras.

    Amber Williams continued to dominate the WIAC Championships. After winning the long jump on Friday, she returned on Saturday to win the triple jump and 60m hurdles. Williams won her third triple jump title with a WIAC Championship record of 12.33m (40-5.5). She came back soon after to win the 60m hurdles in a school record 8.96. Williams currently holds indoor school records in five different events.
  • Williams makes history during Day one of WIAC Championships

    Amber Williams became the first woman in WIAC Championship history to win the long jump three years in a row. Once again Williams waited for her final attempt to jump her best mark. Knowing that she had already won the competition with a previous jump of 5.71m (18-9) she leapt to 5.85m (19-2.5) on her final attempt. Williams now moves to the third spot in the national rankings.

  • LaMere Runs Historic 5,000m
    February 11, 2017
    It’s been 23 years since a Division III runner has run a 5,000m race as fast as Ian LaMere did on Friday. LaMere competed in the second heat of invitational 5,000m race at the Iowa State Classic. He followed the pacer for the first 3,000m meters and took control of the race. LaMere lead the remainder of the race until the final meters to finish second with a time of 13:54.88, less than two seconds from the all-time best time of 13:53.17 set by Dan Mayer of North Central in 1994. The performance earned LaMere National Athlete of the Week recognition by the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association).
