Softball Drops Final Two Games in Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team dropped its final two games in Memphis on Sunday, falling to DePauw, 5-2 and to Rhodes, 1-0.
Game One: UW-Platteville 2 – DePauw 5
Two straight miscues to start the third inning allowed DePauw score five runs on five hits.
The Pioneers tried to mount a comeback in the top of the fourth but could only muster two runs. Taylor Ruchti recorded a one-out single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Cassandra Bonin doubled to left scoring Ruchti and would score on a error by the catcher.
DePauw's Emily Bichler earned the win, throwing a complete-game with five hits and one earned run. Haleigh Chasteen and Jen Ridge both recorded two hits.
Game Two: UW-Platteville 0 – Rhodes 1
Rhodes was coming off a loss to DePauw from earlier in the day and didn't waste any time to get on top of the Pioneers by scoring a run on two hits in the bottom of the first.
The Pioneers' Jeni Freiburger didn't allow that run in the first to get to her and went to hold the Lynx scoreless in the next three innings. Keri Treml came in relief in the fifth inning and only allowed a hit, but without any run support the early run by Rhodes proved to be enough.
Rhodes' Forrest Skelton pitched a complete-game shutout and allowed seven hits.
UW-Platteville's Kayla Gosdeck and Ruchti each tallied a pair of hits to lead the team.
The Pioneers don't return to action until Saturday, March 16 when they travel to Coe for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. travel to Coe for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
