Blue Devils Hand Men's Hoops First Conference Loss, 64-55

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – UW-Stout handed the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team its first conference loss, 64-55, on Saturday afternoon on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Jim Stocki led the Pioneers (7-2, 2-1 WIAC) with 14 points, while junior Eric Gerber was perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe with 13 points and added six assists. Junior Chas Cross grabbed a game-high 12 boards with 11 of them coming on the defensive end and tallied nine points and three blocks.

The Blue Devil's (8-1, 2-1 WIAC) Alex Oman scored a game-high 23 points and was 4-6 from beyond the arc. Aaron Jenny added 13 points, while Erik Olson dished out a game-high seven assists.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead with 16:30 left in the first-half, but Stout responded with a six and a half minute 14-0 run, 16-12. UW-Platteville would never lead again as the Blue Devils took a 27-22 lead into halftime.

Jake Manning opened the second-half with a tip-in and brought the Pioneers' deficit to three, 27-24. The Pioneers weren't able to make a run of their own and were only able to make it a five-point game with 15:58 left to play. The Blue Devils kept UW-Platteville's offense at bay and took their largest lead of the game of 14 points, 57-43, with 3:26 left in the game. UW-Platteville brought its deficit to single digits on a 6-0 run, 57-49, at the 1:40 mark, but Stout withstood the Pioneers final push to get the 64-55 victory.
The Pioneers' schedule doesn't get any easier as they travel to No. 4 North Central (Ill.) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
