John Kelly and Zach Litchfield Named WIAC Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively
Two members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville football
team - John Kelly and Zach Litchfield - earned WIAC Player of the
Week recognition for their efforts in the No. 21 Pioneers' 52-35
win over Dubuque on Saturday, Sept. 8.
Kelly, a senior quarterback from Chicago, Ill., came off the bench
in the Battle of the Bridge and matched a career-high with four
touchdown passes in the victory over the Spartans. He
completed 23 of 30 passes for 262 yards, and added eight carries
for 37 yards and a touchdown. His first pass was a seven-yard
touchdown strike to Ryley Bailey that set the tone for the
afternoon.
Litchfield, a junior place kicker from Waupaca, was
seven-for-seven on extra-point attempts in a 52-35 win over
University of Dubuque (Iowa). He also made a 44-yard field
goal - the second longest of his career - to put the Pioneers ahead
24-7. Through the first two games, Litchfield is now 15-for-15 on
the season on extra-point attempts.
The Pioneers, on Sunday, moved up from No. 21 to No. 17 in
the latest D3football.com poll and are idle for the weekend of
Sept. 15 and will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 20 to face UW-Eau Claire in
a non-conference tilt at 6 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.
