UW-Platteville Picked to Finish Third in the WIAC

In a preseason poll conducted by the sports information directors of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team is picked to finish third in the league.

The Pioneers, who are ranked No. 23 in the preseason by D3football.com, are picked to finish behind preseason favorite and preseason No. 1 UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh.

UW-Platteville and the rest of the league for the second straight season, the schedule for each WIAC team will include one “non-conference game” against another WIAC opponent. The second game played between both schools will count as the league contest.

The Pioneers are coming off a 2011 campaign that featured five WIAC victories for the first time since 1990.  In 2011, the Pioneers ranked 13th in NCAA Division III in turnover margin (1.20), and posted road wins at UW-River Falls for the first time since 1981, at UW-Stevens Point for the first time since 1988 and at UW-Stout for the first time since 1999.  Senior Corey Marks is striving to become the program’s first three-time All-WIAC first team selection since Matt Kent (2001-03).

UW-Platteville will begin its fall practice on Monday, August 13th as the team will report back for preseason camp on Saturday, August 11th.
