This Week in UW-Platteville Athletics
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Below are a list of all the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Athletic events taking place for the week of Feb. 18-24.
This week: UW-Platteville men’s basketball team travels to UW-La Crosse on Tuesday for the first round of the WIAC Tournament. With a UW-Platteville win, the Pioneers will travel to one-seed UW-Stevens Point on Thursday if three-seed UW-Stout defeats six-seed UW-Superior, but with a victory by UW-Superior will send the Pioneers to two-seed UW-Whitewater.
Last week: The Pioneers ended the regular season with a 76-65 victory at UW-Eau Claire last Wednesday. Chas Crosse recorded his six double-double of the season. He grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and a scored a game-high 17 points; and also recorded a career-tying five assists and four blocks. The sophomore duo of Jake Manning and Jim Stocki combined for 27 points with Manning netting 14 and Stocki scoring 13. Senior Rob Stallion rounded out the Pioneers' top scorers with 11 points.
This week: Idle
Last week: The Pioneers finished fourth at the WIAC Championship. This year's championship marked the first time in the 58-year history of the event, that the WIAC champion was crowned using a dual-meet format. The six teams earned seeds based on their performances in the regular-season round robin WIAC schedule.
The fifth-seeded Pioneers started their day with a victory over fourth-seeded UW-Oshkosh, 23-22. In the second round, UW-Platteville fell to top seeded UW-Whitewater, 42-7 and manhandled UW-Eau Clair, 28-9 in the third round. The Pioneers lost to UW-Stevens Point, 35-7, in the third-place dual.
This week: UW-Platteville track & field teams travels to UW-Stevens Point for the WIAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
Last week: The Pioneers competed at the Cardinal Classic on Friday.
Ace McCarty, a junior from Genoa, Ill., earned first place in the high jump, jumping 6 feet 7.5 inches.
Jordan Olp, a senior from Reedsville, Wis., finished second in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.35 seconds.
T.J. Valley, a junior from Prairie du Chein, Wis., finished second in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.08 seconds, breaking his own school record and was behind UW-Parkside's Will Cranford in a time of 8.06.
In the men's 3,000 meter run UW-Platteville captured second, third and fourth places. Dan LaCroix, a sophomore from Verona, Wis., finished in a time of 8:45.97; Chris Czech, a sophomore from Pewaukee, Wis., finished in a time of 8:47.89; Matt Borneman, a senior from Wind Lake, Wis., finished in a time of 8:50.15.
Caitlin Thomson, a sophomore from Whitnall, Wis., finished first in the women's high jump, jumping 5 feet and 2.5 inches.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Deidre Dillman, a senior from Prairie du Chien, Wis., Keturah Vangen, a senior from Rio, Wis., Stephanie Wyss, a junior from Monroe, Wis., and Lynea Axelson, a junior from Oregon, Ill., ran a time of 3:59.92, placing second and setting a now personal best for this season.
