This Week in UW-Platteville Athletics
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Below are a list of all the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Athletic events taking place for the week of Feb. 11-17.
This week: UW-Platteville men’s basketball team travels to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Blugolds are on a two-game slide and are seventh in the conference. The Blugolds have three players averaging 11 or more points per game. Jordan Peterson leads the team with 11.8 points and is shooting 48% from the field. Lewis Mau averages 11.6 points per game while Nick Craggs adds 11.4 per game and leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per contest.
Last week: The Pioneers fell at 16th-ranked UW-Whitewater, 64-50, on Wednesday before beating UW-La Crosse, 77-70, on Senior Day. Chas Cross went 6-6 from the free throw line helping him record his seventh 20 or more point game of the season against the Warhawks. On Saturday, Jake Manning led the Pioneers with a career-tying 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
This week: UW-Platteville women’s basketball team will wrap up its season on Wednesday when they face off with UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court. The Blugolds are led by Sarah Bingea with 12.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. UWEC had lost five its last six games and snapped its five-game slide on Saturday with a 81-70 win over UW-Stout.
Last week: The Pioneers fell to UW-Whitewater, 82-62, last Wednesday and to UW-La Crosse, 73-63, on Saturday. Senior Claire Poad led the team with 15 points against the Warhawks and 11 points versus the Eagles. On Saturday for Senior Day, Poad added four steals and three assists to her 11 points.
This week: UW-Platteville wrestling team travels UW-Eau Claire on Sunday for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Duals.
Last week: The Pioneers fell to Loras College, 35-12, on Thursday night. UW-Platteville’s two victories came from freshman Mike Uliana at 157 pounds and a forfeit by Loras at 125 pounds. Uliana pinned Dan Colatari with 1:33 left in the second-period at 157 pounds.
This week: UW-Platteville track & field teams travels to North Central for the Cardinal Classic in Naperville, Ill.
Last week: The Pioneers hosted the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Chas Spangenberg from Appleton, Wis., made the Fieldhouse roar by vaulting 16 feet 2 inches to break the school pole vault record. Spangenberg now sits third on the national qualifying list.
Senior Aaron Hrubes also had a great afternoon by winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88 and breaking his own school record. The Madison, Wis. native, is currently ranked third in the national qualifying list.
On the women's side, senior Deidre Dillman highlighted the Pioneers' day by winning the 800-meter run in 2:12.24 for a season-best and beating the rest the field by 12 seconds. Freshman Kiera Depies took home the 5000-meter title with a time of 19:05. 38.
