For the third straight year, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will pay tribute to a former coach with a golf outing when the Athletic Department holds the George Chryst Classic on June 30 at at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Chryst served as the head coach of the Pioneers from 1979 until his untimely death in 1992. Previously he coached at UW-Madison and Madison Edgewood High School. Chryst led the Pioneers to the Wisconsin State University Conference Championship in 1980. The next year he became the athletic director and played a key role in bringing two major names to UW-Platteville as well. He assisted in recruiting the Chicago Bears to choose the university for their summer training camp from 1984 to 2001 and hired Bo Ryan as the men's basketball coach in 1984. Ryan guided the Pioneers to four NCAA III national championships in the 1990s.
Check in will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1p.m. The day will end with dinner at 5:30 p.m. It is $220 per person, $800 per foursome which includes dinner, lunch, cart rental and 18 holes.
